Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Getting advice from friends who are older than you is more valuable than getting advice from friends your same age.

Typically, the young have more to learn from the old than the other way around. In this case, it is logical to seek advice to from friends who are older than us. However, we may feel uncomfortable talking about certain problems with them. In addition, the advice from them may not be adaptable. Hence, it is more desirable to seek advice from our peers.

      【Introduction】

It would be unfair to completely dismiss friends older than us when we are looking for advice. After all, dealing with numerous challenges, they have rich experience that is valuable for us to learn. However, we should be aware that their experience may no longer be relevant. With time goes by, approaches they adopted to solve the previous challenges can be outdated, in which case the advice from them may hardly be applicable. Things can be different if we turn to our peers, who can offer a very different point of view than our older friends - and probably one better attuned to the tipping point of today’s challenge.

      【Body】

In addition, in face of embarrassing problems,we are more comfortable and open talking to our peers about them, 【記得體現(xiàn)對比,即與同儕交談的感受 VS 與年長朋友交談的感受。這樣才更扣題】and we feel differently with our older friends. This is because our peers are the ones who often hang out with us, and more importantly, they are supposed to be the ones who most understand our situation and what we really need. Not to mention, due to generation gap, friends older than us,【同樣的,體現(xiàn)對比】as opposed to our peers, can hardly relate to us. Take my cousin of my own age as an example. He was once caught in an awkward situation, and he needed others’ advice to move on. Instead of talking to his mentor, which could make him feel embarrassed, he looked me for suggestions, not because I was more experienced but because I could identify what exactly was bothering him.

      【Conclusion】

In conclusion, getting advice from our peers is better than being advised by our older friends, because friends of our same age are easier to talk to, and the suggestions they offer are up-to-date.
