Well, the place I want to describe is the Beijing South Railway Station. It’s an enormous building, like, properly huge. I’m not sure how many platforms there are but, maybe 50 or so. As we all know, the high-speed rail is a prioritized choice of many Chinese when it comes to medium and short distance travel. If connected with subway and light rails, high-speed rail services in many Chinese cities offer the same convenience as the subway does.

However, many of the high-speed railway stations, especially in second-tier and third-tier cities, are located far from downtown areas and the public transportation is not convenient. So I often have to leave home earlier in case I meet traffic congestion. Secondly, I have to say if it is not the time for tickets to be checked, it is hard for passengers to find a seat nearby the boarding gate since it is originally designed as a bus-like departure lounge and it doesn’t have a large enough waiting room. I think having intercity railway stations in downtown areas will ease the transportation pressure greatly, and maintain the competitive advantages of high-speed rail.
