The five pairs of bars are the illustrations of the registration for various categories of vehicles utilized in Europe in 1996 and 2006. The table illustrates the change of each category in percentage terms over the same period.

Private cars drew immediate attention, as this category dominated in the automobile industry and experienced a moderate change (26%), with the number increasing from almost 19 million to approximately 24 million. By stark contrast, public transport, the most undesirable means of transport, remained stable at roughly 2 million.

When it comes to the three remainders, their figures were all within a narrow range, being smaller than 5 million. The following two categories - motorbikes and other types - saw an opposite trend, with the changing rate of the former as high as that of the latter (33%). In addition, it is also notable that the highest changing rate could be found in the number of registered trucks, whose proportion grew steeply by 50%.
