Task 1
The chart below shows the amount (in tonnes) of coffee and tea imported to four countries in 2007.
The four pairs of bars are the illustrations of four countries’ import of tea and that of coffee in the year of 2007.
In terms of the tea import, the division 【這是個抽象意義的名詞:“切分”】 was distinct 【這是個表達程度的形容詞:“清楚的”】 , as the UK and the US imported up to 160,000 tonnes and 110,000 tonnes respectively, whereas 【這是個連詞】 Germany and Canada were far 【這是個表示程度的副詞】 behind 【be far behind是一種表達數(shù)據(jù)之間大小關系的委婉的說法,沒有直接說數(shù)字之間的大小關系,而是說數(shù)字所在國家的“距離”】 , importing 40,000 tonnes and 20,000 tonnes respectively. By marked contrast, 【這是個建立信息之間的關系的短語,說明了圖中tea和coffee的關系】 the difference, between the four countries, in the import of coffee was generally small. The 45,000 tonnes in Germany were more than the tonnage in the US and in Canada by a mere 5,000 tonnes and only more than twice of the total weight in the UK.
Overall, the UK stood out from the countries, as 【這個詞引導了一個狀語從句】 it had both the largest and the smallest amounts. It is also noticeable that the two amounts made a vast 【這個詞,大家自己查詞典吧】 distinction 【這個詞也是需要大家自己查詞典理解】 between the country’s import of tea and that of coffee.
Task 2
Women should, as men do, have the chance to be police officers or to join the army.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is unfair to have even a moment of hesitation when the military force 【主題詞匯】 or police force 【主題詞匯】 decides whether they will have female recruits 【主題詞匯:(尤其指)“新兵 / 新警員”】 . There are two reasons.
主要看點:【“橫向”展開論證】:句不是中心句,而很有可能在最后一句 / 甚至徹底沒有中心句:
First, a competent 【別用“good”,好么】 police officer should have more than strength and an intimidating 【自己查詞典吧】 face; likewise, a capable 【別用“good”,好么】 soldier should have not only a robust body and gallantness. A crucial part of the recipe 【這個詞,形象了】 for the professional success in the police force or the army may be what males intrinsically lack – patience and empathy. For example, a male soldier may pull the trigger too soon 【這個表達,形象了】 ; a policeman may never ask the right question during an interrogation. At this point, females are needed. They inherently possess these personal traits and are the necessary complement for their male counterparts. 【好多詞要查?查!】
主要看點:【“橫向”展開論證】:句不是中心句,而很有可能在最后一句 / 甚至徹底沒有中心句:
Second, women have long been deemed to be the disadvantaged group and the weaker sex. This long-established conception is based on the role that women have traditionally played, the housewife, and even on the modern-day professions in which women are normally employed, for example, nurses, receptionists and secretaries, none of which require either physical or mental strength. This is however unfair. 【可還記得經(jīng)典的“短句法”?】 To reverse the long-term position of weakness 【“不利地位”的意思】 , women therefore need the society’s permit to enter areas of work where some masculinity is required, typically the police force and the military force. This is to create a more gender-egalitarian society.
At this point, isn’t it obvious that Women should, as men do, have the chance to be police officers or to join the army? 【可還記得經(jīng)典的“明知故問”?】 The answer is affirmative for sure.
